Jimmy Bullard netted a superb first goal of the season but Town fell to a deserved 4-1 defeat to Millwall at the Den. The home side were on top from the off, going two in front via Jay Simpson and Darius Henderson early on. Bullard pulled a goal back for the Blues after the break but Simpson’s second and the Lions' fourth from Liam Feeney soon after sealed a comfortable victory for Kenny Jackett’s men.

Town's U18s recorded their first victory of the league season on Saturday morning with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at Playford Road. A first-half freekick from Caolan Lavery was enough to separate the sides.

Town crashed out of the Carling Cup at the first round stage as League Two Northampton deservedly came from behind to win 2-1 at Portman Road. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas put the Blues ahead with a first half cross-shot but goals from Ben Tozer and Paul Turnbull either side of half-time sealed the Cobblers’ place in round two.

Scotland struck only Town’s second first half league goal of the season, then Leadbitter sealed it after the break from the spot, Danny Shittu having fouled Tamás Priskin.

The 16-year-old, who manager Roy Keane is confident will sign his first professional deal with the Blues on his return, has previously scored four goals at U17 level.

Young defender or striker Jack Ainsley has joined Rushden and Diamonds on loan until January. The Felixstowe-based player made his senior Town debut in the Carling Cup tie at Shrewsbury earlier in the season, having signed a one-year professional deal in the summer.
